After the President lifted the State of Emergency at the end of 2021, a new regulation was used for the disbursement of the Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grants (SRD) R350 grant. Every three months beneficiaries are required to update their information to continue receiving the grant.
Sassa (South African Social Security Agency) provides various types of social grants to eligible individuals in South Africa who are in need of financial assistance.
Sassa SRD R350 Grant
Under the new regulation, SRD beneficiaries had to reapply and ensure that they met the new criteria of having a monthly threshold of R350.
Sassa has a process in place that will help the Agency know whether or not to continue disbursing the SRD grant to beneficiaries.
Reconfirm Sassa Grant Status
Sassa has to be completely sure that it is sending the SRD grant to the correct recipient.
In order for Sassa to be able to do this, beneficiaries are required to reconfirm their existing R350 grant application. We can show you how to reconfirm existing application details with Sassa by using your ID number.
Bank Account Details
You can get your SRD R350 grant from a supermarket but this often involves standing in long queues on pay dates. Having the SRD grant paid directly into your bank account seems like the best payment method. You must tell Sassa your correct bank account details including account type when you make new SRD applications or when you are reconfirming your Sassa SRD R350 grant application.
How to check your that your R350 grant application was reconsidered
To reconfirm your Social Relief of Distress grant details you can access the online platform.
- Click on the SRD website
- Proceed under the ‘South African ID Holders’ section
- Scroll down to ‘Reconsideration status check‘
- Click the yellow bar that reads ‘click here to check reconsideration status’
- Insert ID number
- Insert mobile number
- Click send SMS
- You will receive a One-Time Pin (OTP) via SMS
- Insert Pin
- Click on verify pin
- The final step is the follow any other instructions to complete the process
Sassa requires SRD R350 grant applicants to reconfirm their grant applications at least once every 3 months. This will then inform the Agency that applicants still need and qualify for the SRD grant in terms of the new regulations.
It is also said that existing applicants can also update their responses to a screening questionnaire that is found on the SRD website, at any point in time, should their circumstances change or to correct errors.
How To Cancel Your SASSA R350 Grant Application:
If you want o cancel your relief of distress grant you can do so by visiting the Sassa SRD website.
Step 1: Go to the Sassa SRD website: srd.sassa.gov.za/
Step 2: Scroll down to the Cancel my Application tab.
Step 3: Click on the yellow button which says ‘click here to cancel online’.
Step 4: Provide your ID number and mobile number, then click ‘send pin’.
Step 5: You will receive an SMS with a 6 digit One Time Pin (OTP) number.
Step 6: Client must insert the OTP number on the required field to verify the pin.
Step 7: Then click ‘cancel my grant’.
Step 8: A message will pop up to ask if the applicant is sure about the cancellation of the grant.
Step 9: Click yes to continue with the cancellation or click no to discard.
Since 2005, Sassa has provided financial support grants to some of the most vulnerable members of our society, helping them meet their basic needs. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the R350 grant has become a safety net for thousands of lower income, unemployed and disabled South Africa citizens.
The types of grants offered by Sassa include:
- Older Persons Grant:
- This grant is provided to South African citizens or permanent residents who are 60 years and older and who are not receiving any other social grant.
- Disability Grant:
- This grant is provided to South African citizens or permanent residents who have a disability and are unable to support themselves financially.
- Child Support Grant:
- This grant is provided to parents or primary caregivers of children under the age of 18 who are South African citizens or permanent residents and who are in need of financial assistance.
- Foster Child Grant: This grant is provided to foster parents or primary caregivers of foster children who are South African citizens or permanent residents and who are in need of financial assistance.
- Care Dependency Grant: This grant is provided to parents or primary caregivers of children with severe disabilities who are South African citizens or permanent residents and who require full-time care.
