In 2020, the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) introduced the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant to provide temporary assistance to those who were in dire need due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, not all applicants were successful in their applications, and as a result, an appeal system was established to enable applicants to request a second review of their declined applications.
Why the appeal system was made:
The appeal system was created to ensure that applicants who were declined for the SASSA SRD R350 grant had a second chance to have their applications reviewed. This system aims to ensure that all eligible applicants receive the assistance they need during this difficult time.
What may cause an application to be declined?
There are several reasons why an application for the SASSA SRD R350 grant may be declined. Some of these reasons include incomplete or incorrect information provided in the application, not meeting the eligibility criteria, and duplication of applications.
How to make an appeal after decline:
To make an appeal after being declined for the SASSA SRD R350 grant, applicants need to follow a few simple steps.
- Visit the website https://srd.dsd.gov.za/appeals/appeal
- Provide your 13 digit ID number and phone number that was used to submit the application
- Request for the pin code and enter to open the appeal platform for you. The pin code set as a verification for security purposes.
- Select the month you want to appeal
- Choose the reason for the appeal which must match with the reason for the decline.
- Submit your application.
How long must one wait to receive the outcome of the appeal application:
Once an appeal application has been submitted, the applicant will receive an outcome within 60 to 90 working days. The outcome will be communicated using the same procedure described above to appeal. Use the same website to check the status.
What is the grace period for a declined applicant to submit appeal application:
Applicants who have been declined for the SASSA SRD R350 grant have a grace period of 90 days from the date of their initial application to submit an appeal application. If they fail to do so within this time frame, they will need to reapply for the grant.
