The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has confirmed the grant payment dates for June 2024. The confirmation grant payment dates have come as welcome news for millions of people receiving Sassa grants, including beneficiaries of the older persons grants.
Sassa distributes several different permanent grants aimed at assisting financially vulnerable people living in South Africa. They include the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up and Grant-in-aid.
The Older Person’s Grants, commonly referred to as the Sassa pension grant, is aimed at providing some financial assistance to people who are 60 years and older as they may no longer be able to work.
The Sassa grant payment policy aims to distribute the older persons’ grant and other linked grants on the first day of the monthly payment run. This is the same for June 2024.
Old Age Sassa Grant Payment Dates For June 2024
Sassa will pay June 2024 old Age grants on 4 June 2024. The war veterans grants will also be paid on 4 June 2024.
All You Need To Know About The Sassa Old Age Grant
Beneficiaries of the Old Age Grant receive a maximum of R2,180 every month. Beneficiaries who are older than 75, receive a maximum grant payment amount of R2,200.
To be eligible for the Older Person’s Grant in South Africa, you must be a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee living permanently in South Africa. In addition, you must be 60 years or older.
It’s important that You cannot receive any other social grants for yourself to qualify for the old age grant. In addition to this, you cannot be living in a state-funded institution if you want to benefit from the grant.
Your spouse’s income and assets will be considered in a means test to determine your combined financial situation. This will determine how much your old age grant payment will be monthly.
You must provide a valid 13-digit barcoded identity document or a smart ID card for yourself and your spouse (if applicable). Alternative identification options may be available if you lack an ID or birth certificate, but these will be determined by Sassa.
Applications for the Old Age Grant can be made at your closest Sassa office or online. You can also nominate someone to apply on your behalf if you are unable to do so due to illness or old age.
Applicants also have the option to arrange a home visit by a Sassa official to assist with their grant application if they are unable to do so for the above-mentioned reasons. The Sassa official will assist with completing the application forms after which they will then provide a receipt as proof of the application.
