SASSA Child support grant (CSG) top-up

SASSA Child support grant (CSG) top-up

As of 1 June 2022, caregivers who are eligible can now apply for the CSG top-up at their local SASSA office or online at services.sassa.gov.za.

The CSG top-up has been introduced to assist relatives caring for orphans to provide for their basic needs. The purpose is to keep orphans within their extended family environment without removing them from familiar households.

These children will receive their basic CSG of R480, plus an additional amount of R240, bringing the total to R720.

To qualify, applicants must prove that a child is an orphan by providing the following:

  • certified copies of the death certificates of the child’s parents,
  • or  where the death certificate of one of the parents cannot be obtained by the applicant, a certified copy of the death certificate of one parent and an affidavit by the applicant attesting to the unknown status of the child’s other parent.
